How To Write A Compelling Telecommuting Resume
If you are planning to just copy an existing template for your telecommuting resume, then forget it. This is not a good idea. Most clients, buyers, or companies have seen resumes like these and will not be impressed at all.
Making a resume is like laying the groundwork for your future. If you breeze through the process, you will probably miss a few important points, and this could result in loss of income opportunities.
A standard resume should contain personal data, educational attainment, and work history. It is possible to add some hype and creativity so that potential employers get their attention and interest tweaked. Here are a few ideas to help you create a compelling telecommuting resume.
1. If you are a data encoder, why not consider adding tables to your resume that resemble charts or something similar? This would certainly get the interest going, and encourage a person to go through your data with a fine-toothed comb. It will certainly stand out among everyone else’s.
2. For graphic artists, you should add some pizzazz to your telecommuting resume to showcase your artistic abilities and skills. You could also add some color instead so there is more than just white space and black text.
You should be careful not to go overboard and make your telecommuting resume look like a Disney card. Follow the K.I.S.S. rule, which is Keep It Simple, Silly.
3. If you are a writer, then use your talent to spice up your resume without too much exaggeration. You could end up looking like a person just trying too hard and someone too good to be true. In other words, unbelievable.
Aside from trying to create a unique resume, be sure to add all the important achievements you have. This includes a college degree or a vocational diploma, any success in the corporate world, and individual achievements pertaining to your skills. Avoid too much information about personal successes like running the Boston Marathon or winning the hotdog eating contest in your local country fair. You can always add this as a footnote in case you are interviewed for an assignment that has something to do with these personal successes.
One more thing you should keep in mind is not to overplay yourself. Don’t promise more than you can realistically deliver. For instance, if you can finish a 500 page encoding job in a week, don’t promise it in 3 days just to secure the job. You might end up missing your deadline and ruining your chances to make a good impression for future contracts.
Finally, the telecommuting resume should always be upbeat and end on a positive note.
