What Information To Put In A Telecommuting Proposal

Now that you have decided to try telecommuting, you need to present yourself as a viable option by preparing a tremendous telecommuting proposal that will convince a person to consider hiring or shifting you a telecommuting job.

Just as you are taking a risk in doing work without getting paid, the client is taking a bigger risk in trusting you with a project that probably has a strict deadline, so he is really putting his career and name on you to deliver. Outsourcing’s biggest hurdle was to get companies and entrepreneurs to start trusting in the system. It’s not a perfect system because of the human factor, but you can help improve outsourcing by delivering the goods, so to speak.

The kind of information you should include in a telecommuting proposal should be a balanced amount of personal and work-related successes. You do not have to give a run-down on your personal status, just your educational background. As far as work you have done in the past, be sure that they are verifiable and honest.

Avoid putting too much emphasis on achievements because you can easily just submit past work. If there is a test required, state that you are willing to be tested. Just make sure that the test is something you will be paid for, even for just a minimal amount.

The items you should avoid adding are problems you may have had with work unless you were able to solve someone else’s mess; personal issues like your relationship status; and name dropping.

One thing going against you is the fact that if you are marketing yourself as a freelancer, people don’t know you, cannot relate to you on a personal level, and you’re competing for a job that many others are all around the world. The playing field is level, and you have only this one shot to prove yourself.

Finally, you don’t have to be heavy on the marketing, but you will need to be respectful and mindless of your manners. It speaks a lot about a person who does not know how to address a client properly in a telecommuting proposal.

Also, be mindful of white space in your proposal. This means try not to crown your proposal with too much text. The easier it is to read your letter and proposal, the more receptive the reader will be towards you.

Writing a telecommuting proposal will only be difficult or uncomfortable at the start, so once you get used to selling your services, it becomes second nature.
