HR Outsourcing – A Smart Business Strategy

Human resource (HR) outsourcing is considered a strategic business move that enables companies to focus on core business activities. Outsourcing all or part of human resource responsibilities can reduce costs and be highly effective in improving employee relations. Due to cost issues and lack of resources, many smaller organizations operate without the presence of human resource professionals. This could be risky for the organizations. Managers trying to keep the company running while being responsible for HR functions may not have the knowledge to do so while complying with employment laws. This could cause serious problems for the organization.

HR outsourcing could be the answer for small to mid-size companies unable to afford the costs of an in-house human resource department. Outsourcing allows companies to gain access to resources that were otherwise limited. Recruiting, training, compliance, and employee relations are just some of the resources that can be gained by outsourcing. It also helps to gain new strategies that will allow the organization to stay ahead of the competition. Organizations that are just barely staying afloat may find that outside professionals are able to offer new insight to a struggling business. Often, someone looking in from outside of the company can recommend new tactics to improve the entire structure of the business.

Organizations may choose to outsource on certain areas of their HR functions. Many organizations outsource payroll. Other companies might outsource training. It is completely up the organization what portions of the department would be better suited for an outsourcing solution. Third party providers are available to meet the needs of the organization. Providers offer services ranging from complete HR functions to smaller one-time projects. An example of a one-time project might be constructing an employee manual or providing sexual harassment training. These services can be provided easily by through HR outsourcing.

Many organizations fail to realize that their greatest asset is the people. High employee turnover rates and unhappy employees can be both costly and very damaging to an organization. HR outsourcing can increase employee satisfaction and morale. Outsourcing allows employees to gain access to programs and benefits that would have otherwise been unavailable. Examples are health insurance plans, 401K plans, flexible spending accounts, and employee discounts. Other perks might include employee lunches and recognition programs. Access to programs and benefits can greatly improve morale and increase loyalty to the organization. In turn, production rates increase and turnover rates decrease.
